We at East Unaka are mindful of Jesus’ teaching to preach the gospel, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, care for the sick and essentially do good unto all men, especially they of the household of faith.
The Church at East Unaka was started as a missionary effort of the Downtown Christian Church in the 1920’s and during the depression era prepared and served meals to the needy. God’s grace and mercy flow both vertically and horizontally from Him to us and outward to others.
Since then, mission team members have planned and engaged the congregation in efforts to reach people locally and in the USA and foreign countries through a variety of efforts.
Our efforts have included: clothing drives, food collections, support to many different benevolent organizations, campus ministries, ministerial schools, retirement and nursing homes, after school programs, children’s homes, children’s service camps, disaster relief, and individual family aid. Some projects have been carried out in conjunction with other churches and organizations.
Current efforts include the Joshua Project that provides help for aids victims in Romania where children with aids have been abandoned and ignored by the government.
Another project has been providing funds to help train native preachers, distribute Bibles and build church buildings in southern India.
Mission work is helping connect others to God through Christ. It requires a servant heart, a specific purpose, much prayer, and individual sacrifice
