Title: The Wisdom of Being Honest

Text: Acts 5:1-11

1. Ananias and Sapphira sold some property and brought part of the proceeds to the Apostles. This very generous action cost them their lives. What was so terribly bad that resulted in this penalty? Discuss their possible motives.

2. What affect did the death of Ananias and Sapphira have on the church? Some church buildings are adjacent to cemeteries. How did that happen? What is the connection between church buildings and cemeteries?

3. What do you think the Apostles did with the money?

4. How could Satan use the decision of Ananias and Sapphira to hurt the witness of the church?

5. How can you know what your true motives are? In what ways might hypocrisy be a desired virtue?

6. It is common for every person to want to appear to be better than we know we are. How can our desire to be appreciated and treated like a VIP cause us to be pretentious? Discuss some common ways people are pretentious. How can we avoid pretentiousness?
