DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Sunday January 15 at 11:00 at East Unaka Christian Church

Topic: "Get A Life"

Text: Matthew 9:18--26

1. Three Gospels record this event. Ask 3 persons to read: Mark 5:21-43; Luke 8:40-56; Matthew 9:18-26.

2. What prompted the ruler to approach Jesus? What is the relation between desperation and faith? What is the role of faith in healing?

3. If you were the woman, how would you feel just before you reached out to touch Jesus? Just afterward? How was her faith evident?

4. Compare the ruler and the woman. What does Jesus' response to both show about the Kingdom of God?

5. Jesus called the woman "Daughter". What might that mean to her? How does a person become a child of God?

6. The woman touched the robe of Jesus. Discuss the power of touch.

7. Jesus said, "the girl is not dead but asleep". What evidence was there that the girl was dead? What caused Jesus to say the girl was asleep? How is death like/unlike sleep?

8. Long before the word "therapy" became associated with psychiatry, it was a biblical term meaning healing in the deepest and fullest sense. Luke 9:11 uses "therapy" to describe the ministry of Jesus. The word "salvation" is a medical term meaning "wholeness". Describe some of the values of our Christian faith.

9. What delights you in this passage? What challenges you?
